Makita AC001 Air Compressor Review

Makita AC001 Air Compressor ReviewThis is one of the new additions to the Makita product line. Just like the Rolair AB5, this air compressor is best suited for the avid do-it-yourselfer. It gives enough pressure to only power small air tools.

The AC001 compressor has been equipped with a 1 horsepower motor. It has a maximum PSI of 125 and maximum CFM of 0.45. This unit comes with a 1 gallon air tank. This air compressor is not suitable for commercial or heavy duty work. It can however be sufficient in small workshops or as one of the machines you use for your hobby.

If what you need in an air compressor is not power, but reliability and efficiency, then the Makita AC001 air compressor will be sufficient for you. This compressor has been manufactured by one of the most reliable and trust manufacturers in the industry.

This machine is one of the smallest there is in the market today, making it ideal for when storage space at your home or work area is limited. In a domestic setting such as a quiet neighborhood, the AC001 compressor, just like the Rolair AB5, will prove its worth by producing very little when noise when fully operational.

Performance

Although the Makita AC001 air compressor has been designed to reach a maximum PSI of 125, you can only take it up to 90 for most of your work because taking the PSI any higher will lead to a drop in its output’s CFM.

The AC001 is better suited to handle small jobs like, light finishing work, small nail guns and anything else in that class. When it comes to powering anything bigger, this compressor will in most parts be useless.

The Makita AC001 air compressor and the Rolair AB5 are similar in a number of ways. Their prices are roughly in the same range. Their sizes are also not far apart.

The major difference between the two compressors is probably in their CFM. While the AB5 has a CFM of .7, the Makita AC001 compressor only has a CFM of .5.

The AC001’s Portability

The compressor’s total volume that’s below 23 pounds ensures that transporting the unit becomes a very easy and simple affair. With the air tank in place the compressor only measures about 13 x 15 x 11.

The AC001 compressor is about 2 pounds lighter when compared to the Rolair AB5.

The AC001’s Noise Levels

Although this compressor’s noise level is 4 db higher than that of the Rolair AB5, at 72 decibels, it has still managed to stay well below the current industry average db. This goes to further increase the AC001’s value as an indoors air compressor.

The AC001’s Maintenance Needs

Since this compressor is oil-free, its maintenance exercise basically constitutes cleaning it and keeping it away from anything that might cause physical damage to it. The manufacturer of this machine has also built a reputation as a company that offers excellent customer support to its clients. So getting help when you need it should not be a problem.

Reputation of the AC001

Although the AC001 air compressor is quite new in the market, it has the backing a manufacturer whose products have been tried and tested for years. The reviews available online for this compressor are too few to form an opinion in regards to this machine’s long-term performance. However, if we are to go with other products from the same manufacturer, it would be reasonable to expect good performance and long service.

Verdict

The Makita AC001 air compressor may turn out to be a product that is popular among the people who try it or buy it. The compressor however, scores lowly when compared to similar products such as the Rolair AB5 and the Senco PC1010. Despite giving low power, Makita AC001 compressor has been priced higher than both the Senco PC1010 and the Rolair AB5.

In terms of performance and cost, the Makita AC001 compressor scores lower than the Rolair AB5, although it would also be important to note that both these air compressors have been overpriced. The Senco PC1010 on the other hand, outperforms these two in terms of power output and cost. The Senco PC1010 is more that 40 dollars cheaper than both the AC001 and the AB5.

All the above factors add up to make the Makita AC001 quite a poor purchase. If it’s more power you’re looking for, then it would be advisable to go for the Senco PC1010, however, if power is not your main concern and you’re looking for a unit that only emits a little noise, then you should probably go for the Rolair AB5.
